THE REVIVAL
From Accra, Yayra Agbofah works at the intersection of art, community, entrepreneurship and textile waste. He founded THE REVIVAL in 2018, developing a community-led initiative around the realities of global textile waste and the second-hand clothing trade in Ghana.
His work is closely connected to Kantamanto, one of West Africa’s largest second-hand clothing markets, and to the people whose livelihoods, creativity and daily realities are intertwined with the movement of used clothing. THE REVIVAL works to bring attention to textile waste while placing Ghana and its local knowledge at the centre of conversations about global textile sustainability.
Looking from Accra changes the direction of the story. Instead of asking only where clothes come from, it asks what happens when they arrive somewhere else.
What becomes visible when we follow a garment to where it ends up?
